Fraud Alert Team Overview

Tampa has become a hot bed of insurance fraud.  Many agents, customers and companies have been affected by the onslaught of staged accidents and PIP fraud.  A concerned group of Tampa insurance agents, company personnel, and local residents have formed a committee called the “Fraud Alert Team” to help combat the spread of fraud in our community.  According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), Tampa is currently ranked number 1 in the nation and number 1 in Florida for questionable auto insurance claims and staged accidents.  As a concerned group of Tampa business owners, we would like to find ways to mitigate future losses and educate the community as to the overall cost of insurance fraud and the impact it is having on society.

Many business owners (local insurance agencies) will have no choice but to close their doors due to the increase in fraud.  This will mean that the unemployment in our county will rise and that access to insurance will be diminished.  Today there are many agents who have lost their ability to sell insurance because they have become a victim of fraud.  These are good people, who work hard everyday to help insure local businesses, homes, autos, and more.  The Fraud Alert Team would very much like to assist in any way they can to find solutions to this issue.
